The Volunteer Services Department at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Centennial is dedicated to supporting our hospital in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to our patients, families, and community.

Our volunteers play an important role in enhancing the patient experience by providing supportive, service-minded assistance across departments throughout the hospital. Hospital Administrative Assistant

The Hospital Administrative Assistant provides flexible, multi-departmental administrative support to help ensure smooth daily operations across the hospital.

Position Summary
This role assists various departments with essential administrative tasks including filing, copying, document preparation, and organization of educational and operational materials. The position supports multiple units based on operational needs, contributing to efficiency, organization, and continuity of services.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform general clerical duties such as filing, scanning, copying, and data entry

Lobby Concierge

The Lobby Concierge plays a key role in creating a welcoming, positive, and supportive environment for patients, families, and visitors throughout Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Centennial. This role is responsible for maintaining hospitality and guest services in high-traffic areas, including the Emergency Department lobby, Front Hospital Entrance, and designated waiting areas.

Position Summary
Enhance the visitor experience by providing exceptional customer service, fostering a welcoming atmosphere, and ensuring a clean, organized, and inviting environment across key public spaces.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Greet and warmly welcome all incoming patients, visitors, and vendors
  • Direct and escort guests to appropriate departments and locations as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of waiting areas (dispose of trash, wipe spills, straighten magazines/books, etc.)
  • Restock hospitality items such as the coffee bar in ICU/Surgical Waiting Areas
  • Provide guest resources and support to promote a positive experience
  • Promote a calm, respectful, and positive environment throughout all assigned areas

The Emergency Department Support Volunteer assists clinical staff by performing essential non-clinical tasks that help maintain a clean, organized, and supportive environment for patients, families, and visitors. This role also enhances the patient experience through compassionate hospitality and respectful communication during often stressful situations.

Position Summary
Support the Emergency Department by completing non-clinical duties that promote efficiency, cleanliness, and comfort while helping create a positive and reassuring environment for patients and families.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Disinfect patient rooms following discharge (bed, tray table, chair, IV pole, cables, and other high-touch areas)
  • Notify the Charge Nurse or Unit Secretary when rooms are clean and ready for use
  • Provide clean linens and assist with basic room setup
  • Restock cabinets and ensure standard supplies are available
  • Check expiration dates on supplies and remove outdated items
  • Provide comfort items such as warm blankets, water, and approved snacks
  • Escort discharged patients to the waiting area as appropriate
  • Return wheelchairs to the ED registration area for cleaning and reuse
  • Support a calm, respectful, and reassuring environment for patients and families

Patient Round Cart & Comfort Program

The Patient Round Cart & Comfort Program is a growing volunteer initiative that supports patient rest, comfort, and emotional well-being during hospitalization. The program helps ease the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual challenges that often accompany serious illness and hospital stays.

Position Summary
Volunteers provide compassionate presence, emotional support, and companionship to patients while enhancing comfort and hospitality during their stay.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Visit patients to provide companionship and emotional support through conversation, active listening, reading, puzzles, journaling, and other comfort activities and items
  • Support rest and comfort initiatives by helping create a calming, supportive environment for patients
  • Coordinate with the nurse's station before and after patient visits
  • Communicate visit updates and feedback to the care team as requested

Spiritual Care Volunteer

This independent volunteer role supports patients and families by providing compassionate spiritual care through presence, encouragement, and respectful support of individual beliefs and needs. Volunteers work closely with the Pastoral Care Department to help ensure patients receive meaningful spiritual and emotional support during their hospital stay.

Position Summary
Provide emotional and spiritual encouragement to patients through prayer, supportive presence, and compassionate conversation. This role also enhances hospitality through respectful and courteous communication with patients, families, and visitors.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Visit patients to offer prayer, spiritual encouragement, and supportive presence as appropriate
  • Collaborate closely with the Pastoral Care Department to support patient spiritual needs
  • Obtain patient visit listings from Access Services
  • Coordinate with nursing staff to identify patients who may benefit from a visit
  • Document completed visits on the provided tracking list and submit in the Volunteer Office at the end of shift
  • Provide brief follow-up feedback to nursing staff after visits when appropriate
  • Maintain respect for patient privacy, beliefs, and cultural or spiritual preferences

Supply Chain Support Volunteer

Position Summary
Assist Supply Chain Services (SCS) staff with supply maintenance, organization, and distribution activities to ensure hospital departments have accurate, clean, and well-stocked supplies.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Check supplies for expired or expiring dates and report or remove as directed
  • Clean, organize, and maintain supply bins, storage areas, and staging locations
  • Assist with assembling crash cart drawers and organizing standardized supply components
  • Sweep, clean, and maintain the materials staging and supply areas to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Break down boxes and dispose of shipping and packaging materials appropriately
  • Assist SCS team members with receiving, transporting, placing, and organizing supplies throughout departments
  • Deliver shipping containers and materials to designated dock pickup locations
  • Check for damaged or worn labels and assist with replacement once provided by the SCS team
  • Support additional tasks and special projects as assigned by SCS Supervisor or Manager

The Popcorn Program is a new hospitality initiative designed to enhance the patient, visitor, and staff experience by providing a warm, welcoming, and positive environment through fresh popcorn service in designated hospital areas.

Position Summary
Volunteers support a friendly, engaging atmosphere by preparing and distributing popcorn while promoting hospitality, positivity, and a sense of comfort throughout the hospital. This program is focused on creating small moments of joy for patients, families, visitors, and staff.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve popcorn in designated hospital locations
  • Greet and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in a warm and friendly manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the popcorn station and surrounding area
  • Monitor supplies and notify appropriate staff when restocking is needed
  • Follow all hospital safety, sanitation, and infection control guidelines
  • Promote a positive, welcoming environment throughout service times
