Position Title: Volunteer

Department: Varied Inpatient Departments

Position summary

Spend time with patients in house, assisting them with activation/use of the MyBSWHealth phone app, provide general information about the hospital and its amenities, and more. Volunteer must be someone comfortable with a lot of walking, meeting many new people each day, and adapting to situations as they happen.


VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT TO ENTER ISOLATION ROOMS


Roles/Functions

  • Visit patients in their rooms and create a personal connection
  • Greet patients/guests in the rooms and hallways and be available to answer non-clinical questions
  • Keep track of tasks completed
  • Give directions or support guests as needed
  • Adapt to evolving rounding program week over week
  • Assist in general duties as requested by nursing staff


Competency (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Attention to detail and ability to complete roles/functions
  • Demonstrate empathy and good listening skills
  • Adherence to all policies and procedures

Position Title: Summer Volunteer

Department: Varied Departments

Position summary:

Experience multiple departments within a bustling Medical Center in the heart of McKinney. This is a 7-week, 100-hour program for Students ages 16-20. Each Volunteer will take part in 2 7-hour shifts a week, 9am-4pm, with an hour for lunch at 12pm to 1pm. Volunteers can expect consistent rotation through departments including, but not limited to:

-Inpatient units, such as the Intensive Care Unit, Acute Care Unit, Oncology, and others

-Outpatient units, such as Day Surgery and Radiology

-Emergency Department

-Main Registration and Medical Records

-Supply Chain, Nutrition Services, and Environment Services

-As well as other departments and positions!

-Email a 1-2 page, human-written essay to ryan.campbell@bswhealth.org. In this essay, please share about yourself, why you are interested in being in this program, and what you hope to learn from the experience. Any written essay format is acceptable. Please email this essay as a PDF.


Applications close on April 24th. Interviews will be held (virtually) 4/27 through 5/8. All applicants will be notified of their status on May 15th. Accepted applicants will be sent the information for next steps on this day, including orientation and onboarding materials. The actual Volunteering shifts will take place from June 15th to July 30th.


NOTE: You MUST be available either Monday and Tuesday OR Wednesday and Thursday every week during the program. Volunteers will have the same scheduled days every week, and these days are not flexible.

Position Title: Volunteer

Department: Women's Imaging Center - Outpatient Clinic

Position summary

Volunteer is responsible for creating a warm welcome for patients, families, and visitors as they enter the hospital.


Roles/Functions

  • Greet patients/families and assist by answering non-clinical questions
  • Escort patients from clinic waiting room to procedure areas
  • Give directions and/or escort patients/families to other areas of the hospital
  • Other duties as requested by department leadership

  • Attention to detail and ability to fulfill responsibilities set forth by department
  • Demonstrate empathy and good listening skills
  • Adherence to all policies and procedures

Position Title: Volunteer

Department: Front Desk

Position summary

Volunteer is responsible for creating a warm welcome for patients, families, and visitors as they enter the hospital.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT TO ENTER ISOLATION ROOMS

Roles/Functions

  • Greet patients/families and assist by answering non-clinical questions
  • Give directions and/or escort patients/families to other areas of the hospital
  • Assist with sorting mail
  • Other duties as requested by department leadership
